About the Emergency Housing Programs: The Red Shield and Eliza Shirley House offer safe, compassionate, and non-judgmental emergency housing. They welcome all family configurations with children and operate 24/7, providing intensive case management to support families in achieving self-sufficiency and housing stability.

Position Description:

  • Role: Kitchen Worker
  • Responsibilities:
    • Prepare meals according to menus set by the Kitchen Supervisor in a family shelter setting.
    • Maintain a clean and safe kitchen environment.
    • Assist with kitchen and dining area clean-up, including mopping, trash removal, counter cleaning, and dishwashing.
    • Help with unloading deliveries, storing food, and keeping storage areas clean.
    • Uphold safety and cleanliness standards, and work closely with co-workers and shelter residents.

Qualifications:

  • Food safety certification recognized by the National Restaurant Association required within 90 days of hire.
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Ability to safely use kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Meet Child Protection Clearances as per PA Act 153, including Child Abuse History Clearance, State Police Criminal Record Check, Mandated Reporter Training, and FBI Criminal Record Check.
  • Proficiency in reading, writing, and communicating in English.
