Position Overview: Technician

We are looking for a Technician responsible for the installation, maintenance, and repair of various outside plant, voice, data, xDSL, IP, UTV, FiON, and audio/video equipment at residential and business locations, as well as within the MTS network.

Note: The role may require working non-standard hours, including evenings and weekends.

Key Qualifications

  • Post-secondary education in Communication Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering Technology, Electronic Engineering Technology, or equivalent experience.
  • Hands-on experience in installing, maintaining, and repairing various copper and FiON-based telecommunications equipment.
  • Knowledge of IP networks, equipment, and protocols.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of the job, including pole climbing, lifting, and working at heights.
  • Willingness to work in confined spaces and outdoors in various weather conditions.
  • Ability to obtain various security clearances to meet customer requirements.
  • Flexibility to work shifts, weekends, and holidays.
  • Valid Manitoba driver’s license and willingness to travel across the province via various modes of transport, including vehicle, boat, and aircraft.
  • Self-motivated with the capability to work independently in remote locations for extended periods.

Additional Qualifications (Preferred)

  • Experience with PBX Installation and Repair, including products such as Avaya Aura (RED), Meridian Option series, Norstar/BCM Series, Mitel 200/3300, and others.
  • Familiarity with testing equipment and principles (OTDR, Light Source & Power Meter, EXFO MAXTESTER, 3M DYNATEL 2273 Cable Locator).
